About Evolve

about

A long time ago some caveman said to another, “You needa dis wheely tingy to roll faster,” and the concept of marketing was born. Since that intrepid oaf convinced his buddy to buy that wheel, people have been trying to figure out new ways of selling and promoting their goods to consumers.

Evolve is ultimately just one man — Tom Ohle — but that one man (me) is committed to helping video game companies of every shape and size reach a larger audience and to turn that audience into committed and loyal fans instead of just a source of revenue. I work from home so there’s no overhead to drive costs through the roof, and I also have this stupid “conscience” thing that constantly keeps me from overcharging clients. That same stupid conscience also makes me keep my client list small, so that I can actually pay attention to each one… I know that sounds crazy, but I can actually make it seem like I’m some mythical beast that works as much as an in-house rep, costs less and doesn’t stink up the bathroom after the free-pizza lunch.

If you don’t like my style, I can recommend a number of other freelancers and agencies that have similar ethical standards: Calico Media, Maverick PR and Sandbox Strategies are just a few. Hit me up for more recommendations.

I once had a proper website for Evolve, with all sorts of highfalutin text that was supposed to win clients over with my undying charm and unstoppable writing powers. But that’s so 2005. With this blog I want to generate discussion about the latest tools and methods used in PR and marketing, and to help companies and marketing pros gain some insight into how to do a better job of reaching consumers and dealing with media. With the increased prominence of social media and the lessening effectiveness of traditional tactics, it’s more important than ever for all types of marketers to understand their audiences and to relate to them directly.

Of course this wouldn’t be much fun if all I did on here was talk about my job. You’ll find random musings about games and other things that interest me here. And hell, you might even see some other names pop up on the blog once in a while, as I have a merry band of potential contributors just chomping at the bit to maybe post their own insights… maybe. When they feel like it. Same goes for me… so you can’t blame me for a few days of silence! Don’t do it! No blame! Not me! 1, 2, 3, not it.

If you’re interested in working with Evolve (a.k.a. Tom) just email us (me) at tom-at-evolve-pr.com and check out our Propaganda PDF for more detailed info. I’d also be happy to hear from anyone interested in contributing to the blog. Same email.

If you want to connect with me, hit me up on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn (where you can also see a few recommendations from folks I’ve worked with in the past).

Peace out!

Tom
